Domenica Dolce-Scimeca

Obituary of Domenica T. Mae Dolce-Scimeca

Domenica ‘ Mae’ Scimeca, aka Dolce, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, April 24, 2023.  She was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and was the daughter of Ida and Thomas Mirabile. Her beloved sister Vivian Anselona predeceased her.

She met and was married to Joseph Dolce for twenty-two years. They moved to Lagrange to raise their family. She was the proud mother of Steven Dolce, Christa Dolce, and her daughter-in-law Sandra Dolce.

Mae was the school secretary and Administrative Assistant to the Principal for over twenty years for the Arlington School District.

After she retired, she spent ten years as a volunteer at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum where she logged over 3,000 hours of service and prepared abstracts for a collection of Eleanor Roosevelt’s radio broadcasts, speeches, and interviews. She was the recipient of the President’s Council Volunteer Service Award presented to her at a ceremony at the National Archives in Washington DC. She loved every minute of it!

Mae was a big history buff. Reading about and visiting many historical sites and places over the years with her daughter and her niece. She had a keen interest in the Native American culture.

Known as ‘Aunt Bub’ to her nieces and nephew; Donna (Bob) Troisi, Marla, Ida, and Matthew Anselona, and her Great Nieces; Dayna Troisi and Vivian Argila.

Aunt Bub was more like a second mother to them and they’ve had many memories together.  She had a very special relationship with her
Niece Donna and her Great Niece Dayna.  Their deep love for each other created a unique bond that grew tighter and tighter over the years.

She was also predeceased by her second husband, Salvatore Scimeca, her mother, and her father.
